This white paper reflects the authors longstanding interest in international development, institutional capacity building, knowledge sharing, and the role of agriculture in sustainable economic and social development.

Throughout their professional careers, the authors have worked with academic institutions, government agencies, private-sector organizations, and nonprofit organizations in the United States and internationally. These experiences have reinforced their conviction that sustainable development requires more than financial resources, technical expertise, or the implementation of individual projects. It requires strong institutions, meaningful partnerships, locally relevant knowledge, and the capacity of communities to identify their needs, develop solutions, and sustain progress over time.
